Frequently asked questions
The whole site explained simply: the weekly Torah, the festivals, accounts, the OrDex, the wolf and challenges.
The site
What is Or HaZeev?
A journey into the Torah for families and curious minds, Jewish or not. Each parasha (the weekly reading) has its page with its haftara (the Prophets text read after it), midrashim, a touch of kabbalah and illustrations in the fantasy world of Or HaZeev. Festivals and special days have their page too.
Do I need an account to read?
No. All pages, festivals and the 3-question quiz are open to everyone, with or without an account.
How do I install the app?
Or HaZeev installs like an app, without any store. On a phone, tap "Install" when the banner shows, or choose "Add to Home Screen" in your browser menu. You can then turn on notifications at the bottom of the page.
Where can I find the Or HaZeev Haggadah?
On "The Haggadah" page (gold button at the top). It is ordered from our partner printers; their links are on the order page.
Accounts and access
What are the access levels?
Wolfie: a free account, with the same content as a visitor. Ze'ev: the 10-question quizzes, "Going further", the OrDex (beta), the wolf companion, friends and challenges (149 ₪ a year or 19 ₪ a month). Wolf Pack: the same for the whole family, up to 6 accounts (249 ₪ a year or 29 ₪ a month).
How do I subscribe?
Online payment is coming soon. For now, the members' space opens by invitation during the test phase.
How do I stop?
On the Subscription page of your space, in one click, without writing to anyone. You keep access until the end of the paid period.
Do I lose my progress if I stop?
No. Your cards, quizzes and paw prints stay saved. If you come back, everything is there. Only deleting your account (Profile page) erases it.
The OrDex, Torah cards
What is the OrDex?
Your collection of Torah cards: the people, places and objects of each parasha. You find it in your space, OrDex tab.
How do I win the parasha card?
With the quiz at the bottom of the parasha page. 3 right answers: bronze card. 6 out of 10: silver. 10 out of 10: gold.
And the other cards?
They start greyed out. Click one: you read its story, then answer its 10 questions. 6 out of 10 unlocks it, 10 out of 10 makes it evolve into gold (sometimes with a new name). The answers are always in the text.
What is the diamond card?
The trophy of a parasha: you win it when every card of that parasha is gold.
Can the wolf help me?
Yes. During a card quiz it can remove one wrong answer, at most 3 times per quiz.
The wolf companion and levels
How do I choose my wolf?
On your first visit to the OrDex, you choose among 6 companions: little, young or great, wolf or she-wolf. You can change whenever you like.
How do levels go up?
With the number of cards. Level 1, Cub: from the start. Level 2, Traveller: 20 cards. Level 3, Shepherd: 60. Level 4, Guardian: 120. Level 5, Wolf of light: 200. At each level your wolf changes its look.
And titles?
They come from finished quizzes: Newcomer, First step (1), Reader (10), Student (30), Chaver (50), Talmid Chacham (100), Guardian of the Torah (250).
How do I hide the wolf?
In your avatar menu (top right) or on the OrDex page: "Hide the wolf". The same button brings it back.
Paw prints
What are these little paw prints?
A wolf paw print is hidden in every page open to all. Click it to win it. The OrDex shows how many you found for each book of the Torah, for the festivals and for the other pages of the site. A good way to discover the whole site!
Profile, friends and family
Which picture shows for me?
Your photo if you add one in your profile. Otherwise, your wolf companion at its level.
Display name and user ID: what's the difference?
The display name can change whenever you like. The user ID (@pseudo) is unique and chosen once: it is what your friends use to find you. Your e-mail is never shown to others.
How do I add a friend?
Friends tab: type their user ID or e-mail. They accept on their side. A green dot shows who is online.
How does the family account work?
A parent invites each member by e-mail. The invited person accepts from the e-mail or from the Family tab, where a red dot tells them. Everyone keeps their own account, and parents see everyone's cards and quizzes.
Challenges
How do I challenge someone?
Challenges page: pick a friend from your list, or play alone to challenge yourself. 10 questions on the whole Torah, 10 seconds each. A right answer in under 5 seconds gives 2 points, after that 1 point.
Does my friend need to be online?
They get a notification (if turned on) and a red dot on the Challenges page. When they accept, you play live: you see their points at each question.
The birth page
What is the birth page for?
It gives the Hebrew date of a birth, the parasha of the week, and the date of the bar or bat mitzvah with its parasha. It prints nicely, to give or frame.
